Substitute Teaching

To function as a substitute teacher, a person must possess a valid substitute, early childhood, elementary, secondary, or special certificate. No other person may serve as a substitute teacher. Teacher aides, paraprofessionals, administrators, student teachers, and recent graduates of a teacher education program who have not yet obtained a teaching certificate may NOT serve as Substitute Teachers. Anyone beginning substitute teaching after January 1, 2011 must also have a Substitute Teacher Authorization issued by the Regional Office of Education.
