Food Competition

Our 7th and 8th Grade classes had to take on a new challenge in their physical education class recently. As part of a healthy lifestyle, PE teacher Mr. Foster decided to partner up students and have a cooking unit similar to the TV show “Chopped.” Students were given 5 specific ingredients that they had to use to prepare a dish. They did however have the option to add 10 additional ingredients. Dishes were judged on presentation, taste, creativity and effective use of ingredients.

All of the students did an excellent job and had a lot of fun preparing these meals. Winners from 7th Grade were Katrina Moats, Megan McGuire, Jenny Coss, Grace Eitutis and Allie Leone. (They had prepared parmesan alfredo, potatoes, breaded chicken and a slushy.) 8th Grade winners were Brady Mudge, Kadyn Guynn, Katelyn Pullam and Leighanne Turner. (They had prepared a cream cheese chicken breast with bacon, mashed sweet potatoes and a chocolate covered strawberry.)

Congratulations to all on such a good job! Below are some pictures from the cooking unit food competition.

Egg Drop.. Success!

On Tuesday, March 27th Dimmick Schools 4th and 5th grade students were able to put their science experiments to the ultimate test! Students were assigned to build an egg container to protect a large raw egg from a 40 foot drop from the top of a ladder truck provided by the City of Peru Fire Department. Students were very creative using different materials, like Peeps, a bag of popcorn, shopping bags for parachutes, etc. The was a combined total of 39 projects and only 15 eggs broke. Below are some pictures of the success our students had. Blue and Gold Day - Support for Alumni

Blue and Gold Day - To show support to a Dimmick Alumni

As some of you may know, Luke Yaklich is a 1990 graduate of Dimmick School. He is now an Assistant Coach for the University of Michigan Men’s Basketball Team. He also attended LP High School, Illinois Valley Community College and went on to graduate from Illinois State University to become a Social Studies teacher. He has always given back to the youth in our community by coaching various local basketball teams. One of his first teams that he coached was the Dimmick girls’ basketball team during his college years. To show our support to an outstanding Alumni of Dimmick School, we are having a Blue/Gold Day on Thursday, March 29th to wish Coach Yaklich and the University of Michigan Men’s Basketball team good luck on their journey through the NCAA Final Four Tournament. You can show your support by wearing your blue and gold or any basketball shirt/jersey that you might have. If you do not have any blue and gold or a basketball shirt/jersey, feel free to wear our school colors or any Dimmick Spirit Wear.
