Dimmick Grade School and Cherry Grade School Consolidateion Information Night

Dimmick Grade School and Cherry Grade School Consolidation Information Night
Monday, September 12, 2016 @ 7:00PM
In the Dimmick Grade School Gym

Dear Members of our Community,

Back in March, we sent information regarding the proposed referendum to consolidate Dimmick School District #175 and Cherry School District #92 that will be on the November 8, 2016 general election ballot.

In that letter, we included details regarding why the Dimmick and Cherry Boards of Education took steps to deactivate Cherry Grade School and begin educating the students at Dimmick Grade School. Student’s from Cherry began attending Dimmick at the start of the 2014-15 school year and are now beginning the 3rd year under the deactivation intergovernmental agreement.

The letter also outlined the timeline and process for moving toward a permanent consolidation. The next step will be for stakeholders in both communities to vote on the issue at the November 8, 2016 at 7:00PM in the Dimmick Grade School Gym.

Topics include:

  • Why the Dimmick and Cherry Boards of Education are seeking to consolidate
  • How the deactivation has been beneficial to Dimmick School District
  • How the proposed consolidation will impact property tax rates
  • Financial incentives from the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Enrollment and class size data and trends
  • Academic and extracurricular programs
  • Consolidation timelines
  • School board elections and representation
  • Long-term sustainability and independence

We want to encourage everyone from our community to attend in order to make sure you have the facts regarding the consolidation. We would appreciate an RSVP so that we can be sure to have enough handouts and seating for all who wish to attend. You can RSVP to rlinnig@dimmick175.com, by calling 815.223.2933 or by going to the Dimmick website www.dimmick175.com and clicking on the green RSVP banner located at the top of the home page. In addition, if you have specific questions that you would like us to respond to, please be sure to indicate so in your RSVP. If you cannot attend and would like to discuss the details of the proposed consolidation, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Linnig or any of the members of the Board of Education.

Parent Information Night

Parent Information Night is an event designed for you to meet the teachers and discover what to expect for the year. Our goal is to have 100% participation so all parents/guardians are well informed of important issues regarding our curriculum, classroom expectations, RtI and extracurricular activities. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We want to work together to ensure the greatest possible success for all students. We want you to get the most out of the sessions, so if needed, the PTO will provide supervision for your Pre-K through 4th grade children.

Parent-Teacher Conference sign up will be in the front hall outside the office. Conferences will be held Monday, November 21 and Tuesday, November 22 from 3:00-8:00PM. In cases of joint custody, we ask that you schedule conferences at the same time to ensure that both parents are receiving the same information and that everyone is working together to ensure the greatest success of the child. This also helps us to ensure that we are able to accommodate the need to schedule conferences for all families during the two nights. The PTO will have a sign-up sheet for those interested in serving as room parents and will be sharing activities planned for the year. 4-H projects will also be on display. We look forward to seeing you and to a great school year.
